TeamCare responds to Hurricanes Harvey, Irma, and Maria
Friday, October 27, 2017
When Hurricanes Harvey, Irma, and Maria hit the United States, the Central States Health Fund’s Board of Trustees jumped into action for our members. With many of our members displaced and unable to work due to the flooding, the Trustees made sure our members had one less worry on their plate. Reaching out to the local union leadership in the area, the Trustees provided continued healthcare coverage for our affected members and their families. Whether it was replacing lost prescriptions, eyeglasses, or providing coverage until the member could return to work – TeamCare was there to help.
In addition to the actions of the Board of Trustees, the staff at TeamCare also responded to help our members. The 600 employees of Central States, many who are members of Teamsters Local 743, along with TeamCare's healthcare vendors, raised over $88,000 for the Teamsters Disaster Relief Fund. On Sept. 20, 2017, the union stewards at TeamCare presented a check to International Brotherhood of Teamsters Secretary-Treasurer Ken Hall. "This is another great example of TeamCare stepping up when their brothers and sisters are in need," said Hall. Our hearts go out to those affected during this tragedy and TeamCare will continue to offer assistance where possible.
