3 types of telemedicine

By now you’ve already heard of Teladoc. You might even have used it. Since telemedicine was first introduced in January 2020, TeamCare members have made 400,000 virtual visits.

Since the pandemic, TeamCare has expanded to offer additional telemedicine options through CVS MinuteClinic and Blue Cross Blue Shield. Let’s compare the three:

What will it cost me?

$0 copay.

What is covered?

General medical, dermatology, and behavioral health visits.

Who can use it?

Available in all 50 states to members and any covered dependents. Behavioral health visits are available to those age 18 and over.

When can I use it?

Teladoc is available 24/7/365.

How do I use it?

Visit Teladoc.com/TeamCare to create your account and input your medical history. You can then schedule an appointment through your computer or through the Teladoc app.

What will it cost me?

Your copay, according to your Plan Benefit Profile. In addition to copay, a telemedicine claim could be subject to deductible and co-insurance.

What is covered?

General medical, behavioral health, monitoring and managing chronic conditions.

Who can use it?

Members whose doctors participate in telemedicine (varies by provider).

When can I use it?

Varies by provider.

How do I use it?

The best way to find out if your provider offers telemedicine, is to call your provider’s office.

(In all states with the exception of Ohio, which is part of the MMO network until January 1, 2022.)

 

MinuteClinic logo

What will it cost me?

E-clinic visits have a $0 copay similar to an in-person MinuteClinic visit.

What is covered?

E-clinic visits for most non-urgent services, plus monitoring and managing chronic conditions.

Who can use it?

Available in 35 states and Washington, DC to members and covered dependents.

When can I use it?

Between 9 AM to 5 PM, 7 days a week (excluding some holidays).

How do I use it?

Visit CVS.com/minuteclinic/virtual-care/e-clinic and creating a MinuteClinic MyChart account, using your contact information and your TeamCare information.

Note: MinuteClinic offers two telehealth options. The “Video Visit” will not be covered at 100% by TeamCare, and will require you to pay out of pocket.
