Getting a good night’s sleep

Thursday, September 13, 2018

Most of us have forgotten what “a good night’s sleep” really feels like. Just like a good diet and exercise, sleep is a critical component to your overall health. Yet sleep is the first thing we’re willing to sacrifice as the demands in our lives keep increasing.

The amount of sleep needed each night varies from person to person, but most healthy adults need between 7-9 hours of sleep each night to function to the best of their abilities. Not getting enough sleep or not getting quality sleep will eventually take a toll on your health, mood, and productivity, so it is important to establish a sleep routine and trying to stick to it.

Here are tips to help improve your sleep:

  • Don’t drink caffeine in the afternoon
  • Engage in regular exercise
  • Keep your bedroom dark and quiet
  • Don’t go to bed on an empty stomach
  • Disconnect from all electronics 30 minutes before bed

If you are unable to get quality sleep, you may want to contact your in-network physician to find a treatment option that is best for you.
