There have been over 1,000 reported cases of measles so far in 2025. Measles is making a comeback due to a combination of factors, primarily declining vaccination rates and increased global measles activity.
What is the measles vaccine?
The vaccine given for measles is commonly referred to as the MMR vaccine because it protects against measles, mumps, and rubella. It is a two-dose vaccine, typically given when a child is between 12-15 months and again between 4-6 years old.
Can you get measles if you are vaccinated?
Yes, it's possible to get measles even if you've been vaccinated, though it's very rare. According to the Mayo Clinic and the CDC, the MMR vaccine is highly effective, protecting about 97% of people.

Can adults catch measles from a child?
